Developed from Wang Kejing’s short film of the same title, Kayaking is a photobook about looking for the ocean where it seems least likely to exist.
Kayaking considers what is lost when geography, climate, and geology appear to render the world fully known. The book returns to landscape as a field where personal images can unsettle established oppositions between land and sea, reality and imagination, and allow myth to re-enter the visible world. Its journey moves against the current, searching for traces of the ocean in the desert and for hidden connections between seemingly unrelated places.
